Proposed 281 Expansion Near Dolan Place

The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) had proposed adding toll lanes to the existing US 281 highway from Loop 1604 to the Bexar County line and beyond. Construction on widening 281 north of Loop 1604 to Stone Oak parkway is already in process. Recent developments have halted the toll road plans.
The following photograph was taken of the TXDOT schematic presented at a public hearing Sept. 8, 2005. It showed the proposed Wilderness Oaks overpass and the anticipated taking of approximately 200 ft on the west side of the existing roadway. There was no proposed taking on the east side (the Dolan Place lots). For the sake of clarity, the approximate location of the lots has been added to the TXDOT schematic by the author. Note that the northbound exit ramp (yellow) from the 281 toll lanes (blue) connects to the "free" (yellow) lanes at the southern edge of lot 106. The proposed Wilderness Oaks overpass is shown in red. Whether or not these plans will be resurrected is unknown at this time.
